With Rising Tide, McDonough thinks they’re rectifying some of those issues. It wasn’t quite the bold Alpha Centauri successor everyone expected. Discussing the game in March, Beyond Earth‘s co-lead designer David McDonough admitted “a little bit of lack of ambition” with Beyond Earth‘s base game. The complaint was so pervasive, it even came up during a GDC postmortem on the game. But one of the first things I asked was “What makes Rising Tide different from ‘More Civilization‘?” It was one of the most pervasive complaints about Beyond Earth, and rightfully so-in many ways, it felt like a reskinned version of Civilization V. It may not be ethical, but it can bring the fun back into your life if you've been having a hard time dealing with the game.To be clear, I haven’t seen Rising Tide in action yet. In case you are having trouble with the game, this Sid Meier's Civilization: Beyond Earth - Rising Tide Trainer allows you to activate the Mega City Population perk with a simple press of a button. As such, your main goals are to expand your territory and destroy everyone that tries to stop you. It was a historically-based 4X game until Beyond Earth was released, but except for the theme, the gameplay mechanics haven't changed in the meantime. In case you are not familiar with the franchise by now, the Civilization series has been around for many years. As such, this is much more than a regular DLC, but the price is equally high as well.

The pack brings a lot of new content to the table, including four new factions, the possibility to colonize the ocean, hybrid units, and two new biomes. Sid Meier's Civilization: Beyond Earth - Rising Tide is an expansion pack that poses as a DLC for the rather disappointing original game.
